This is a beautiful image, although because of the bright colours of the lady bird, I would suggest that it would look better with colour. Nature contains so many vivid colours, that's why it's always best to capture that beauty.
Color is too easy - too many people take pictures with color for the sake of color. Photography is about light. Fine photographers make images about light rather than about color, primarily. If a photographer chooses to explore monochrome you should not presume to say color would be better- would you tell a painter what color or style to use?
Especially given the fact that you have posted most of your work so far in b&w, how can you say "it's always best" to shoot any subject in color?
This image creates mystery and interest for a subject that is often boring- just another close-up color ladybug picture would not hold my attention for one second. Perhaps you should hesitate a little before making superficial comments.
Hope I didn't offend, but this issue is a pet peeve. Welcome to dA - sincerely. I hope you get a lot out of it.
Colour is too easy? Photography is all about light? Considering that I did a Photography course, I learnt that light is an important part of photography, it's not all about light. That's only one element. I said my personal opinion since the lady bug contains many great textures and colours that I think would look appealing as a colour image. And yes, I am aware that most of my images are black and white. Why did I chose that style? Because of my concept in those images.
Actually what you said, that I reacted to was "Nature contains so many vivid colours, that's why it's always best to capture that beauty." (Emphasis mine).
I 1) graduated from a (two year, professional) photo school; 2) have sold a lot of my photography for publication; 3) taught photography; 4) have really thought about the art of it for decades.
Oh. You did a Photography course. My, my. Guess I better pack up my opinion and f-off. Zen koan: What is a photograph without light?
Wow, okay great. I may not have sold any of my work but okay, it's great that you like to mention that, and great, I'm glad that you taught Photography, congrats. Like I said, it's my opinion. The first comment that I said was only my opinion and my experience. Every experience is different. And in all honesty I am a little hurt about the way you've explained some things. No need for sarcasm.
